How to play chess for beginners?
Chess is a two-player strategy game played on an 8×8 grid. Each player has 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The objective is to checkmate your opponent’s king, putting it in a position where it can’t move without being captured.
Here are the basic rules:
- Pawns move forward one square but capture diagonally.
- Rooks move vertically or horizontally.
- Knights move in an L-shape: two squares in one direction, then one square at a right angle.
- Bishops move diagonally.
- Queens can move horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
- Kings move one square in any direction.
Additional rules:
- Castling allows you to move the king and one of the rooks simultaneously.
- En passant lets a pawn capture another pawn that has just moved two squares forward.
- Pawn promotion lets a pawn become any other piece upon reaching the opponent’s back rank.
